A masterclass for writers of crime or suspense fiction who understand that crime is not the lowbrow inferior of literary fiction but a genre ideally suited to the finest fiction any writer is capable of producing. Focusing on: how to make your crime novel unique, how to remain within the rules of the genre while simultaneously breaking new ground, how to create mystery/suspense and why that is so important, finding the balance between planning and letting your story unfold organically, the relationship between plot and character, how to generate the best ideas you are capable of producing, and how to attract the enthusiasm of agents and publishers. Bring a laptop and/ or notebook and paper.
